Missed School Days Tracker

When a child has no school place, every day at home adds up. We know this because Hertfordshire County Council has left Oliver without one. This tool helps families keep track. Just enter the dates to see how many school days your child has missed.

Calculate your child's total missed school days

How to use this tool

Use this tool to estimate how many school days your child has missed. Enter your local authority, the date they stopped attending, and if they have since returned, the end date. It is designed for children who are not in school or who have spent time out of school, for example because they never started, were waiting for a place, or their placement broke down. If your child has or had a reduced or part-time timetable, please use the Reduced School Timetable Tracker.

Choose the date absence began. If they never started, use the date they should have started school. Only school days are counted.
Use this if your child has returned to school. Leave blank if your child still doesn't have a school place.
Enter your local authority name if you want it included in your results. This is optional.

About this calculator
This calculator was made by Oliver’s parents for families in England. It gives an approximate number of missed school days by counting only term-time weekdays. Weekends, school holidays and bank holidays are left out. INSET days are included, as these vary between schools. This is a guide only and not legal advice. If you spot anything wrong, please let us know.

Frequently Asked Questions.

There are many reasons this can happen. Some children never start the school named in their plan, others are waiting for a place, or their placement has broken down. Sometimes families are told a panel will look again or that there are no suitable places, but the days still pass.

No. The calculator only counts term-time weekdays. It automatically leaves out weekends, school holidays and bank holidays.

Inset days are included because they vary between schools and are still counted as school days in most official data.

It is better to use the Reduced School Timetable Tracker for that.

Use the first day your child was not in school. That could be the day they were taken off roll, stopped attending, or when their placement broke down. If they have gone back since, you can add the return date.

That’s fine. Just enter the date they should have started or the date you began waiting for a place. The calculator will count from there.

Many children lose months or even years of education while waiting for the system to act. This tool helps put that into perspective.

No. This site was created by Oliver’s parents, to help other families understand what the delays really mean. It is a guide, not legal advice.

Yes please. It really helps to know if something doesn’t look right. You can send us a message on our Instagram or our contact page.
